Bel-air

Spelsberg's newly patented device is designed to solve or mitigate the problem of water condensation inside an enclosure which is exposed to frequent temperature change (see article Moisture - An Overlooked Cause of Failure). Although enclosures may be rated with a high IP value, humid air may penetrate the same: when the temperature drops (e.g.: at night), the moisture condenses inside the enclosure. After a number of such cycles, it is possible to witness the presence of water inside the enclosure. It is therefore advisable to ensure continuous air exchange between the interior of the enclosure and the ambient.

While many devices have been used to this purpose (ventilation plugs, ventilation glands), the new BEL-Air element has been designed to allow air circulation, prevent condensation, maintain 100% pressure compensation, prevent the entry of foreign objects, at the same time maintaining the IP65 rating of the enclosure.

BEL-Air (p/n SP263-440) is installed (always at least 2 units per enclosure, one for air entry, one for air exit) in an M40 cutout. Once installed, IP65 rating is maintained due to the patented labyrinth-shaped internal seal design, which drives water to the external lower part of the fitting, while air is allowed to circulate. The internal filter is replaceable; apart from this, no maintenance is specially recommended by the manufacturer.

The BEL-Air element is made of polycarbonate UL94V0, is rated IP65, NEMA3R, IK08, and is cULus certified. Sold in package of 2 sets, each complete with filter, washer and locknut.
