ILME 'BIG' Hoods

  • Print

“BIG”, the new series of diecast aluminum hoods for multipole connectors introduced by ILME®, has been designed to offer significantly more wiring space, thus facilitating installation and testing while reducing the risk of damage to conductors, short circuits and accidental disconnection of some conductors.

Big HoodsCompared to the standard models, the new “BIG” hoods are wider and taller: 66mm (W) compared to 43mm, and 100 or 110 mm (H) compared to 70 or 76mm.  In practice, this means three times the volume for wiring and terminals.  In addition, the cable compartment of the hood is fully accessible during assembly, as the male or female insert is completely installed and secured in the lower half of the hood.   These hoods accept the most common ILME® inserts (screw, spring, crimp, “MIXO”). The new “BIG” hoods come with one to seven metric threaded holes either on the top or on one side (models available upon request with holes on the front, or non-drilled); thread sizes are M40 or M50 for the smaller “size 6” hoods (Standard hoods: M32), and M50 on “size 10” hoods (standard: M40).  This means that different group of cables or wires can be conveyed through different cable glands or flexible conduit adapters.   Special applications include mounting a printed circuit board inside the top part of a hood with horizontal entries, adding a grounding lug for the top part, or finally installing a pilot light or a pushbutton in the same.
