Step Down Heat Shrink Butt SplicesA new family of heat-shrinkable butt splices, to join insulated electrical wiring 22 to 8AWG, is available from ITC.

These splicing terminals have an internal copper tube with a wire stop in the middle, insulated by a tube of high-density heat-shrinkable polyethylene (PE), colour coded for identification.

There are four models for wires ranging from 22AWG to 8AWG. This family of butt splices also include four ‘step-down’ models, used to connect wires of different sections on each side of the terminal.

A coloured ring stamped on one side indicates the different wire section.

Features and specifications:

  • Insulation: high-density heat-shrinkable polyethylene (PE)
  • Rated maximum voltage: 600V
  • Rated maximum current: dependent on wire used, from 9A (22AWG) to 70A (8AWG)
  • Operating temperature: -40 to 105°C
  • Shrink temperature: 150°C
  • Shrink ratio: approximately 2.5:1
  • Approvals: cULus (#E96029)

Crimping can be done with any professional tool for pre-insulated terminals, and shrinking with a heat gun providing a temperature of approx. 150°C.
